New Delhi, May 12 (PTI) On the eve of the last phase of the current Lok Sabha polls, Chief Election Commissioner Navin Chawla today described the exercise as the “largest event management in the world”.
Chawla, who was the chief guest at a function tonight, attended by Foreign Secretary Shivshankar Menon and various heads of diplomatic missions in the capital, to release a documentary showcasing conduct and management of elections by the EC, said, “The statistics are of epic propotions…
“We call the photo identity cards the EPIC (Electoral Photo Identity Card) cards…The elections is of epic proportions.” Talking about the complexities involved in conducting the exercise, Chawla said the “mammoth exercise” contained mind-boggling statistics.
Complementing the Commission for smooth conduct of elections both Lok Sabha and assembly, Menon said there was no other institution like Election Commission which has played such an important role in nation building. PTI
