Attn: Shri N. Gopalaswami, Chief Election Commissioner
Shri Navin B. Chawla, Election Commissioner
Dr. S.Y. Quraishi, Election Commissioner
Shri R. Balakrishnan, Deputy Election Commissioner
Sir,
We wish to draw the kind attention of the Election Commission of India to an extremely provocative and unbecoming statement reportedly made of Shri Lalu Prasad Yadav of the RJD in KISHANGANJ/ARARIA (BIHAR) yesterday 6 April 2009. Referring to Shri Varun Gandhi he said “yadi mein home minister hota, uske chhati par roller chala deta”. The job profile of India’s home minister, as per Shri Lalu Pradad’s expectation, appears to be crude and bhayanak ! Thank God for small mercies, he has not put to use his exaggerated powers as Railway Minister to crush opponents on the rail track !!
Such a statement coming from a Party Chief who is also a Central Cabinet Minister is extremely unbecoming. It breaches the Model Code of Conduct I-General Conduct-(1) and (2) which eschew creation of mutual hatred and causing tension. It also violates I (4) which condemns intimidation. Such provocative statements do invite counter responses which may incite further tension and violence. This statement of Shri Lalu Yadav also makes him liable for prosecution under See 153A and Sec 505 of the Indian Panel Code.
We urge the Election Commission of India to initiate action against him on the above complaints and also direct the Election authorities in Bihar to file an FIR and register a criminal complaint against him.
Thanking you,
Yours faithfully,
