Voting for the high-stakes Delhi Assembly election is underway. After seven hours of polling, a meagre 40.51 per cent voter turnout was recorded for Delhi Assembly polls till 3:30 pm, according to Election Commission’s Voter Turnout app. In 2015, 51.2%% vote percentage was recorded till 3 pm, which indicates a sharp 21% drop in voter turnout.

Electors can carry smartphones at polling stations in 11 assembly constituencies for accessing QR codes from the voters’ helpline app in case they have not brought the voter’s slip to the booth.

Delhi has 70 Assembly constituencies and one constituency in each of the 11 districts will have this tech-driven facility.
In the 2015 election, Arvind Kejriwal’s Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) pulled off a surprise by scoring 67 of Delhi’s 70 assembly seats. The BJP was reduced to three and the Congress, which had ruled Delhi for three straight terms, scored a duck.
