Hariyali Teej 2021: What are the fasting rules?
Hariyali Teej festival is celebrated in honour of Goddess Parvati and Lord Shiva. On this day, women rise early, take a bath, wear fresh and clean clothes and do Sankalpa to keep a day-long fast (Nirjala Vrat) by taking the names of Mahadev and Mata Parvati.
- After Sankalpa, devotees can begin their vrat.
- For puja, prepare three idols of Lord Shiva, Mata Parvati and Lord Ganesha – with clay.
- Next, prepare Panchamrit (a concoction of milk, curd, honey, sugar, and ghee).
- Also make Prasad, Halwa or kheer for bhog (Naivedya).
- Do the puja by offering flowers, coconut, fruits, paan, supari, Dakshina etc (either during Vijay Muhurat or Godhuli Muhurat or Pradosh Kaal).
The fast is called Nirjala fast because women are not allowed to consume a single drop of water. The fast ends on the next day morning when all the rituals are properly completed.
Hariyali Teej signifies greenery and so women wear green coloured dresses and bangles to mark the auspicious occasion. They also make merry by singing and dancing to various traditional songs.
